THE REPRESENTATION OF THE NAMES OF UZBEK NATIONAL DISHES IN WORKS OF ART AND THEIR TRANSLATION

This study delves into the portrayal of Uzbek national dish names within various art forms and examines the challenges associated with their translation into other languages.  Recognizing that culinary terms often carry deep cultural significance, the research emphasizes the importance of preserving these nuances during translation.  Utilizing qualitative methodologies, including textual and semiotic analysis, the study explores Uzbek literature, cinema, and visual arts to identify the role of dish names in conveying cultural narratives.  The research further categorizes translation strategies—such as transliteration, descriptive translation, cultural substitution, and annotation—and evaluates their effectiveness in maintaining cultural integrity.  Findings suggest that a combination of transliteration with brief explanatory notes often yields the most culturally respectful translations.  This paper aims to contribute to the broader discourse on cultural translation practices and offers recommendations for translators handling culturally rich terminology.
