NATAL INJURIES OF THE CERVICAL SPINE IN NEWBORNS

Natal injuries of the cervical spine in newborns are rare but potentially devastating conditions that require prompt recognition and careful management. These injuries may occur during complicated labor and delivery processes, particularly in cases of breech presentation, instrumental delivery, or excessive traction applied during birth. This article reviews the epidemiology, mechanisms of injury, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, and treatment strategies associated with cervical spine trauma in neonates. Emphasis is placed on early detection, neuroimaging protocols, multidisciplinary care, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes.
