N2  - Linguistics plays a central role in modern language studies because it provides scientific tools for understanding how languages are structured, used, learned, taught, and changed. In contemporary education, language is no longer viewed only as a set of grammar rules or vocabulary items; it is understood as a complex social, cognitive, cultural, and communicative system. This article examines the role and importance of linguistics in modern language studies through an IMRAD-based academic approach. The study analyzes how the main branches of linguistics?phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, and applied linguistics?contribute to the development of language teaching, translation, intercultural communication, literacy, and digital language technologies. The article argues that linguistics helps educators and researchers move beyond mechanical language instruction and develop more meaningful, evidence-based, and learner-centered approaches. The findings show that modern language studies depend on linguistic knowledge not only for theoretical explanation but also for practical solutions in education, communication, translation, artificial intelligence, and social interaction. The article concludes that linguistics is not an auxiliary discipline but a foundational science for understanding language in the modern world.
