Utilizing a mixed-methods approach-a combination of observational data and the analysis of literature-this study evaluates four widely-used platforms: Duolingo, Quizlet, BBC Learning English, and Moodle. Gamification elements and flexible scheduling have indeed improved engagement and perceived autonomy; however, concerns arise over superficial learning patterns and reduced critical thinking.
