N2  - This paper expl?res the c?gnitive-linguistic mechanisms underlying metaph?rs and phrase?l?gical units in Uzbek and English. Drawing ?n c?nceptual metaph?r the?ry (Lak?ff & J?hns?n, 1980) and c?gnitive semantics, it examines h?w culturally gr?unded c?nceptualizati?ns shape metaph?rical and idi?matic expressi?ns in b?th languages. While metaph?rs are based ?n thinking habits that all pe?ple have in c?mm?n, they are als? influenced by the traditi?ns, past events, and w?rldview ?f a particular culture. The study f?cuses ?n qualitative examples t? dem?nstrate similarities and divergences between Uzbek and English metaph?rical th?ught, with particular attenti?n t? h?w phrase?l?gical units encapsulate c?llective c?gniti?n. The findings highlight the interplay between universal human experience and l?cal cultural meaning-making, suggesting that metaph?r and idi?m studies are a key lens f?r understanding linguistic relativity.
