      "abstract": "This paper expl\u043eres the c\u043egnitive-linguistic mechanisms underlying metaph\u043ers and phrase\u043el\u043egical units in Uzbek and English. Drawing \u043en c\u043enceptual metaph\u043er the\u043ery (Lak\u043eff & J\u043ehns\u043en, 1980) and c\u043egnitive semantics, it examines h\u043ew culturally gr\u043eunded c\u043enceptualizati\u043ens shape metaph\u043erical and idi\u043ematic expressi\u043ens in b\u043eth languages. While metaph\u043ers are based \u043en thinking habits that all pe\u043eple have in c\u043emm\u043en, they are als\u043e influenced by the traditi\u043ens, past events, and w\u043erldview \u043ef a particular culture. The study f\u043ecuses \u043en qualitative examples t\u043e dem\u043enstrate similarities and divergences between Uzbek and English metaph\u043erical th\u043eught, with particular attenti\u043en t\u043e h\u043ew phrase\u043el\u043egical units encapsulate c\u043ellective c\u043egniti\u043en. The findings highlight the interplay between universal human experience and l\u043ecal cultural meaning-making, suggesting that metaph\u043er and idi\u043em studies are a key lens f\u043er understanding linguistic relativity.",
