So‘nggi yillarda Polikistoz tuxumdon sindromini faqat ginekologik muammo sifatida emas, balki insulin rezistentligi, gipertinsulinemiya, dislipidemiya, metabolik sindrom, semizlik, past darajali surunkali yallig‘lanish va endotelial disfunktsiya kabi tizimli metabolik buzilishlar bilan kechuvchi kompleks holat sifatida qarash kuchaydi. Metabolik omillar tuxumdon steroidogenezi va follikulogenezi regulyatsiyasiga ta’sir qilib, ovulyatsiya buzilishlarini chuqurlashtiradi, endometriy retseptivligini pasaytiradi, shuningdek, yordamchi reproduktiv texnologiyalar samaradorligiga salbiy ta’sir ko‘rsatishi mumkin.
