%X This paper explores the challenges and strategies involved in translating historicisms within literary texts, focusing on Abdulla Qodiriy’s renowned historical novel O‘tkan kunlar (Bygone Days). The novel, rich in cultural, political, and historical references of 19th-century Central Asia, presents unique difficulties for translators due to the use of historicisms — words, concepts, and cultural artifacts that are deeply rooted in a specific historical period. The study analyzes selected examples from the original Uzbek text and their translations, discusses the preservation of historical authenticity, and examines techniques such as footnoting, descriptive translation, and borrowing. By drawing comparisons with English literary translation norms, the paper highlights the delicate balance between fidelity and comprehensibility, aiming to contribute to the growing field of literary and cultural translation studies.
