abstract: This paper explores the multifaceted nature of poetry, aiming to define and understand its essence, purpose, and cultural significance. Poetry is more than a literary form; it is a powerful medium of expression that conveys emotions, ideas, and experiences through carefully chosen language, rhythm, and structure. By examining various definitions from classical to modern perspectives, this study highlights how poetry reflects individual and collective human consciousness. It also investigates the role of imagination, symbolism, and aesthetic beauty in poetic creation. Ultimately, the paper argues that poetry, though difficult to define universally, remains a timeless and vital form of human communication and artistic expression.
