N2  - Pragmatics, the study of language in context, is essential for understanding the nuanced use of English in communication. This article examines how politeness strategies, as a core aspect of pragmatics, function in English interactions. Drawing on Brown and Levinson?s (1987) politeness theory, the article explores how speakers manage face-threatening acts (FTAs) through linguistic choices such as indirectness, hedging, and honorifics. A qualitative study involving native and non-native English speakers was conducted to investigate the use of politeness strategies in requests, apologies, and disagreements. Findings show that cultural and contextual factors significantly influence the selection of strategies, underscoring the importance of pragmatic competence in achieving effective and respectful communication.
