This analysis explores the semantic structures and connotations of "ugliness" within various lexical fields, examining its representation in dictionaries, everyday language, and literary texts. By drawing on insights from cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, and cultural studies, the paper investigates how linguistic markers of ugliness go beyond mere physical appearances to include aspects of behavior, emotion, and morality. The study identifies the central role of metaphor, comparison, and negative evaluation in the lexicalization of ugliness, arguing that its meaning extends into socially constructed values and cultural norms. Furthermore, the analysis delves into how the concept of ugliness intersects with related notions such as beauty, deformity, and monstrosity, providing a comprehensive framework for understanding its complex role in human communication.
