%X This article presents a comparative critical analysis of traditional and contemporary approaches to the study of maqom theory. The article examines the possibilities and limitations of European musicological methods, ethnomusicology, computational musicology, and cognitive music science as applied to maqom. The author argues for the necessity of an integral methodology — a new paradigm combining classical Eastern music theory with modern scientific tools.
