"Entrepreneurship and Employment Among People with Disabilities: Trends, Challenges, and Policy Recommendations."

In this paper, the authors examine the roles of entrepreneurship and employment for people with disabilities with the view of identifying trends, gaps, and policy recommendations for improved economic participation and inclusion. The study uses data from the Department of Labor and employs social inclusion theory and the disability rights model to examine the structural barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from engaging in business and employment. Based on the variations in business ownership across veterans and racial/ethnic minorities, the article provides recommendations on how to promote policies for disabled entrepreneurs and employees. Some of them are; financial handlings; mentorship services; skill enhancement and development; and policy measures that encompass both the economic and social aspects of disability.
